The architectural challenge was in transforming the scale of the existing complex whilst respecting the architectural integrity of the existing historic Villa. By careful positioning of the new extension, important vistas from the lake and the approach were preserved and the historic building is still able to sit in a dominant position overlooking both natural and man-made landscape.

The stripped back functional language of masonry walls from the existing building becomes the basis for the new extension, with lines of deeply recessed pilasters in tightly coursed brickwork. The main entrance canopy and the wall copings are in cast concrete that has copper added to oxidize over time into a green to match the existing Villa roof.
